A GROUP OF MATERIAL BY FLUXUS AND HAPPENING ARTIST NAKAJIMA INCLUDING 4 UNIQUE ITEMS

Tokyo based Yoshima Nakajima was an active participant in Fluxus type activities including many famous street events and happenings from 1959 when he first contacted such luminaries as John Cage, Yoko Ono, Robert Rauschenberg as
well as the Japanese Gutai artists. By 1964 he had moved to Amsterdam, having previously formed the Naturalized Group and the Tokyo Unbeat Group which rapidly became well known for their public art events in Japan - often being the only known representation of such activities in Asia after Gutai. Meeting  the likes of Panamarenko, Jorn, Beuys, Vostell, Robert Jasper Grootveld, Jean-Jacques Lebel, John Cage,  Kaprow, Rauschenberg, Tajiri, Kudo and Simon Vinkenoog, Nakajima continued his work which eventually led to his expulsion from the Netherlands because of his participation in a unlawful public Happening. Many of his street actions can be seen in period documentary photographs by Cor Jaring.  Moving to Belgium, together with Panamarenko and Hugo Heyrman, Nakajima founded the avant-garde art magazine Happening News but was soon again expelled, this time from Belgium - yet again for staging a happening without lawful permission. After moving to Sweden, Nakajima become the organiser for Fluxus Scandinavia and from 1966 was active throughout Europe as a Fluxus artist, with a particular emphasis on his Mandala works. By 1977, the artist had moved into cooperation with Jorgen Nash and other Cobra affiliated artists based around the Drakabygget project. To this day Nakajima is still an active artist sharing his home between Sweden and Japan.

We offer here a group of  9 items by Nakajima from the 1970s including four
