A PRIVATE CIRCULATED EDITION

Nitsch, Hermann
UNTITLED (3 TYPOSKRIPTBANDE - ABREAKTIONSSPIEL (URFASSUNG), POLIZEIBERICHTE, GERICHTSAKTEN; KUNIG OEDIPUS. EINE SPIELBARE THEORIE DES
DRAMAS AND FRUHE AKTIONEN.). ORIGINAL XEROX ARTIST'S BOOK.
n.p. (Graz?): n.p. (Nitsch?), n.d. (between 1970 and 1976)
Three separate volumes - each bound in plain blue boards and consisting of respectively 148pp, 85pp and 178pp xerox pages. This is an earlier (it seems) version of the Edizioni Morra artist's book of the same title released in 1976 in a limited edition of only 200 signed and numbered copies (and in a much smaller page size) only the text on each page corresponds exactly to that edition's content. These are very detailed and dense theoretical texts by Nitsch on his development of the quasi-religious actions that followed his provocations of the 60s with Brus, Meuhl and Schwartzkogler: some illustrated with reproduced diagrams and drawings by Nitsch. This most likely is an earlier private edition of the books bound privately and circulated by Nitsch to friends and colleagues as this was apparently the artist's habit on other occasions although as noted this format differs from the official edition in page size so it was not just an overrun of internal pages rebound. The outer boards have the odd mark on them and there is some very minimal fading/sunning to the spine of all three volumes but internally and overall these are in near fine condition.
Of course the xeroxing of the original typescripts has meant that the typography is very mixed (Nitsch produced these documents in a period of between 1965 and the mid-70s on different typewriters) and some of the pages have been copied such that the text blocks are often squint but thatis the charm in part here - a very personal and confessional glimpse into the mind of one of the most influential artists of the 21st century. We presume this is very scarce document and welcome any information anyone may have on it to further our description and knowledge of the books.

Price is for all three volumes together
