Matthew Barney

CREMASTER 1 (BOOK)

£375.00

Wien: Kunsthalle Wien, 1997
24 x 29.5cm, unpaginated - printed full colour throughout with minimal text -
colophon and cast list - the content being stills from Barney's second film in the cycle of deeply layered films. First edition of this artists' book published in conjunction with Viennese show held November 28, 1997 -February 8, 1998 which also traveled to the Museum fur Gegenwartskunst der Emanuel Hoffmann-Stiftung und der Offentlichen Kunstsammlung Basel, for the period of March 28 - June 28, 1998. Many pages fold out to show the Goodyear girls and blimps in their choreographed glory on the football field. The cremaster movies, by the way, if placed in numbrical (non-date sequential) order move their locations from West to East as planned by Barney long before filming of even Crem 4 began. Barney once told us (in an interview) that he saw the Cremaster films as landscape sculptures and if one considers them with a little thought then one can see that is true but there is so very much more beside in these 20th century masterpieces of artistic fiim making. one slight bump internally over a few pages but nothing too distracting otherwise VG. Increasingly quite scarce.
