L'EXEMPLE DE COURBET
Paris: Editions Cercle d'art, 1952
26.2 x 22.2cm, 212pp,  Boards with embossed design. First edition of this monograph on Courbet written by the former surrealist Louis Aragon who was attracted to Courbet because of the latter's dedication to depicting the life of workers and peasants. Many b/w illustrations throughout and 104 b/w full page reproductions of drawings and lithographs by the artist (not often found elsewhere). Boards are a bit marked and very slightly waved on the rear and the blank endpapers are browned but otherwise very good. This copy has also a hand written blue ink dedication by Aragon on the half title thus: “a Dedee qui n'est pas si baudelairienne que Jean. Leur ami Louis”.
