24 x 19.8cm, 72pp plus 77 pages with numerous b/w illustrations of works after amongst others Max Ernst, Giorgio de Chirico, Joan Miro, Georges Braque, Arp, Francis Picabia, Pablo Picasso, Man Ray, Andre Masson, Yves Tanguy. Original covers with dustjacket. One of Breton's first books on the visual and plastic surrealist arts. A numbered copy after the du tete of only 18 copies. The cover here is detached and requires re-gluing and the dust jacket is very worn around the edges with paper lacks at bottom and sides with the folded over edges missing (although these were blank and nothing has been lost). Internally all is very good with only minor marks on a few pages. This copy is number 760 which suggests a limitation of at least 1,000 although the book is not often encountered in any condition. It is however priced here to take account of the poor cover.
