KITAJ'S OWN COPY OF THIS CLASSIC POP ARTIST'S BOOK WITH A DRAWING AND DEDICATION FROM CREELEY AND SIGNED AGAIN BY BOTH CREELEY AND INDIANA

Indiana, Robert and Robert Creeley
NUMBERS
Stuttgart: Galerie Schmela, 1968
25 x 21cm, unpaginated (68pp including 10 full page colour plates hor texte by Indiana of his Numbers series 0 - 9. Original boards. First edition of this lovely pop art co-production with poetry by Creeley and typical primary coloured 'number' illustrations by Indiana. This copy is one of 2,500 signed copies (by both illustrator and poet) but is particularly distinguished by having a fine association where the book was a gift from Creeley to the US pop artist RD Kitaj and the first end paper has a very bold and very large dedication from "Bob"  "for Rob/A LOVELY MAN/with love" and a large drawing of a pointing hand with far too many fingers! Dated in Creeley's hand "9/23/69". Found in Kitaj's library and obtained indirectly from the sale of some of his books, this is a very attractive and firm association copy of a stunningly simple pop art classic. Some minor sunning to spine of boards in original very good slipcase which has only minor wear to edges. Clearly unique thus.
