Daniel Buren

AN UNINSTALLED STRIPE FROM INSTALLATION (BLUE)

£95.00

Berkeley: U.C. Berkeley Art Museum, 1979
22.5 x 55cm approx printed deep navy blue offset with wide white borders. An unusual ephemeral item - an unused/unglued signature Buren strip rescued from his U.C. Berkeley Art Museum installation: 'Museum Stalactic/Stalagmite: A Drawing in Situ and Three Dimensions', wherein stripes were applied to all of the tops of all of the museum's interior and exterior parapet walls and horizontally to all the vertical separator
walls to form a minimalist environment. Of course, these are not works, rather the material means toward, however this was a very important shift in the artist's practice wherein this exhibition was only the second time Buren had converted the entire architectural space into a
single conceptual whole - many years later a  similar strategy was employed in the NYC Guggenheim museum to critical acclaim . All in very good + estate. Decidedly rare.
