ASPEN MAGAZINE NR. 2

£100.00

New York: Aspen Communications/Roaring Fork Press (editor & publisher: Phyllis Johnson), 1966
22.5  x  30-cm card box containing  five black booklets/paper works  (uniformly 15 x 12cm but pagination and construction varies )  Farewell to a Canyon (an environmental tract relating to Aspen's Glenwood Canyon and the Highway Department's plans to
run a four-lane highway through it),  The Adaptable House" (an architectectural plan in blue and with b/w photographs by John Macauley Smith describes the living space and activities of the family of Robert and Erika Murray. It includes an architectural drawing of the house and one of Mrs. Murray's dinner party menus with her recipes - a crucial document.),  Scriabin Again and
Again (a musical critique of the pianist's work),  Ski Racing and the significant record of the Aspen Film Conference  The Young Out s vs. the Establishment with work by Lionel Trilling, filmmaker James Blue, Jean Renoir, Carroll Baker and Karl Menninger. Additionally there is a phonograph record. The inclusion of the architectural and film elements hint at the magazine's later art direction and involvement which was to find a glorious beginning in Aspen No. 3. All contents intact and in fine estate  but the box inner dividers are broken and the box itself is shelf worn and has broken corners and a tear at the hinge. because of the three dimensional aspect of Aspen boxes almost all examples are damaged in someway.
