TRANSITION NR 18 COVER BY SCHWITTERS + JOYCE'S WAKE

£45.00

(Joyce, James)
TRANSITION. NR 18. EDITED BY EUGENE JOLAS
Paris: The Servire Press, November 1929
22.5 x 15cm, 291pp + adverts + plates. Original card wrappers with an (unusual for the artist) illustration by Kurt Schwitters. A single number of this radical journal for literary experiment. Many many contributions by the significant literati of the USA and Europe including Harry Crosby (several contributions), Eugene Jolas (the editor), Paul Klee, Careese Crosby (oft claimed to be the inventor of the modern bra), Charles Henri_ford, WIlliam Carlos Williams, Roger Vitrac, Robert Desnos, Rene crevel, Tina Modotti, El Lissitzey and others as well as the usual section of Joyce's Work in Progress (the original title for the Wake) as well as reproductions of Stellas Styn's illustrations for Joyce's Anna Livia Plurabelle. This is not in good condition - there is very heavy edge wear all over, the spine is cracked and has paper loss top and bottom. Almost all pages are browned and brittle and the wrappers are marked and scored. The first end paper has a large paper loss (clipped at some point) and there is an ex libris inside the front cover. Worthwhile to complete a set or for those who can place the book into decent conservation. Priced to reflect condition issues.
