Stanislav K. Neumann

AT ZIJE. ZIVOT!

£100.00

Prague: Nakladetal/Borovy, 1920.
17.2 x 11cm, 247pp. 14 line-drawings by Josef Capek. Original wrappers. First edition of this work by Neumann, as illustrated by Josef Capek; brother of the writer Karl, one of the most influential proponents of Expressionism in Czechoslovakia, and author of detective stories. By 1920, Neumann had become much more influenced by socialist thought - although many anarchist influences remained in his philosophy until, two years after this book was written, he took part in the 1921 founding conference of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and began to accept the Party line. Neumann later contributed to the Communist Party's journals and newspapers (Proletkult and in Komunisticka revue) before eventually falling foul of an increasing Stalinism and expelled. Here is a book of short stories/essays with a distinct political hue. Minimal paper loss at base of spine and spine slightly bowed else a solid example. Scarce.
