Alasdair Gray

LANARK. FIRST EDITION.

£275.00

Edinburgh: Canongate Publishers, 1981
24 x 16cm, 564pp. Boards and pictorial dustjacket. First edition of this landmark Scottish novel which not only established Gray's importance as a writer but also his skill as illutrator and typographer. This copy is VG+ in the original dustjacket which has one small closed tear on the top of the spine and minor edge damage on the rear but is overall VG. The book is an allegorical description of Glasgow (here "Unthank") as a city which casually damages its citizens through a common brutality born of class oppression. Now scarce.
