Philippe Soupault

LES FRERES DURANDEAU. (1924) WITH A DEDICATION FROM THE AUTHOR

£195.00

Paris: Grasset, 1924
15 x 12cm, 208pp plus original wrappers. The first edition of this autobiographical novel by the surrealist written at a time when he was moving slowly away from Breton toward a career as a journalist and author (which horrified the latter surrealist who was always damning of commercial writings). Some mild bowing to the rear wrappers and the first three pages have the a small part of the  corners removed (probably a hand written note which has been 'price clipped'). The paper is, as usual for this time,  a little fragile due to the quality of the edition but otherwise this is a solid example. This copy has a handwritten dedication from the author to Monsieur et Madame Jean de Brunhoff  - the author of the French children's classic tale "Babar the elephant". Thus scarce.
