Apollinaire, Guillaume
LES MEMELLES DE TIRESIAS
Paris, Editions du Belier, 1946
19 x 14cm, 87pp plus original wrappers. Original surrealist lithographs by Picasso were added to this reprint of the earlier important dramatic text by Apollinaire - first performed in 1917 and  sponsored by the periodical SIC. Importantly, this was the theatre event where Breton's friend, and later-suicide and possible murderer, Vache is said to have emerged down front with pistol drawn in order to commit the most base of surrealist acts - viz, a random act of murder of one of the audience - before being dissuaded by more realistic, and less romantic, souls.  This book contains the very first ever use of the word surrealiste on the first page of  Apolloinaire's preface added for this book. Very good example.
