Emblematic of the author's wartime Argentine experience, which featured both a working and somewhat guarded romantic relationship with Victoria Ocampo (the founder of SUR and first woman elected to Argentina's Academy of Letters). In 1944, Caillois would establish the Latin American division of the N.R.F.. One of only 225 examples on velin. Title page with brief marginal ink notation, else a fine copy of this scarce title.
