31.2 x 21.6 cm cardboard slipcase (with printed label) content of 36 loose folios and title page index and colophon, kept in the original cardboard slipcase One of a small number of copies of this rare portfolio of cartoons, drawings and collages by Hofmeister which depict various luminaries of the Czech and French avant garde including Gide, Kapek, Tzara, Breton, Joyce, Pasternak, Majakowsky, Nezval,  Filla and others. This copy is number 36 of what was undoubtedly a small number of copies produced. This copy is very good +++ . Hofmeister was a central figure in the Prague Devetsil group being their first secretary. Elsewhere he is described as a “painter, caricaturist, illustrator, stage decorator, author, playwright, translator, journalist, radio reporter, professor of art, art critic, politician, diplomat, cultural ambassador and world traveller.”
