THIRTEEN SEPARATE PROMOTIONAL SAMPLE PAGES /MAIL ART MAILINGS FR

£850.00

NYC: The Something Else Press, 1965. Ten separate 20 x 25cm offset litho pages - all folded mechanically for mailing out. Each page is different and NONE appear in this format in the final printing of the book. All pages were designed by Johnson and were the result of mail art sent by him to Alison Knowles and Dick Higgins who later collated the whole (with Johnson's assent) and created the artist's second book (The Paper Snake). These pages are all indicated verso as "sample pages" and were intended to be sent out by the press to promote the book - thus, de facto, returning the printed page to the original medium of postal art! Here we offer a set of thirteen pages all in fine condition: given Johnson's fascination with the number 13 (as with the number of pages of the Book of Death he created) then we are tempted to speculate that this may be a complete set of pages produced but that IS speculation and we have been informed (by a close friend of Johnson's) that it is probably co-incidence in that Higgins ordered the printing of the sample pages rather than Johnson - in any case a scarce set of publicity items for Johnson's book. Images on request. Scarce. 850 uk pounds for all 13 pages together
