Aragon, Louise and Breton, Andre
PROTESTATION
Paris: s.p., n.d. 1926
18 x 14cm, 2pp. red on cream stock. First edition of this early public proclamation by the authors against the involvement by Max Ernst and Joan Miro in the annual Parisian 'Ballets russes' where the latter duo designed the décor. Condemning their colleagues for taking the job for commercial reasons (Breton was against all such financial actions - even writing articles for journals for money met his disapproval) and arguing that by taking part in the grand event they were cheapening surrealism as well as supporting a bourgeois sensibility. Certainly the Russian Balls were splendid and ornate events. A fine copy. Rare.
