(Surrealist tract).
WE DON'T EAR IT THAT WAY. Collective text.
NYC: self-published, 1960
30 x 25cm, 1pp black on yellow leaflet signed by amongst others Breton, Corneille, ELT Mesens, Toyen and others protesting at the inclusion in the D'Arcy gallery, International Exhibition of Surrealism a work by Salvador Dali. Duchamp had unwisely concurred with the inclusion of the work and for that he received this public rebuke. The work (a portrait of Gala) is condemned for its religiousity and Dali is rightly damned for his repudiation of surrealism and his embracing of Franco and the reactionary Spanish church. Twenty-five copies of the leaflet had a false beard attached to them as art orbject but this is a fine example of the more common handout that was distributed publicly at the gallery. Texts in French and English.
