Jorn's tortured, expressionist imagery (allied to his long term support for International Situationism: despite having officially left the group many years before) fits the subject matter perfectly and the posters are a call to arms to 'les enrages'. Around 1,000 of each poster were published and many immediately pasted up on the walls of a Paris in crisis: a crisis, that was, until middle class opinion supported De Gaulle's oppression of the rebels and allowed the war hero to buy off the trade unions with a small wage rise.
