Andy Warhol

LIZ (1965) A VERY EARLY POSTER

£850.00

Toronto: Morris International Gallery, 1965
64 x 70cm, full colour lithograph on light card. Released as the exhibition poster for this very early international solo show (1965 was the first year Warhol exhibited outside of the USA) the work is in essence the same as the officially editioned Warhol print but utilised as a promotional item. Hence an early Warhol at an affordable price. The image is adopted from a publicity photograph of Elizabeth Taylor from around 1960 but with the usual Warhol simplification and alteration to the colour. Some dealers cut the sides of this print off to remove the gallery details (the text down both sides reads: 'Andy Warhol March 15th through April 3rd, 1965' / 'Morris International 130 Bloor Street Toronto') but this example is complete and without any edge damage to speak off. This is in very good condition with only slight browning at the very edges of the wide white margins. A rare and early item.
