WITH A FOREWORD BY POPPER SPECIALLY WRITTEN FOR THE CZECH SAMIZDAT PUBLICATION

Popper, Karl
VECNE HLEDANI (UNENDED QUEST)
Prague: Preklad Edice Prameny, 1988
22 x 121cm, 132pp (recto only). Original light ochre cloth boards with title typed on paper label glued to the spine. Carbon copy pages. The first Czech translation of Popper's "intellectual autobiography" based on and giving full credit to the Fontana-Collins edition of 1977. Popper had clearly gave his assent to this reprint in this form as he supplied a foreword in Czech to the edition which written in 1988. Popper's work was proscribed by the Czech puppet government because of his "anti-historicism" and detailed critique of Marxism as "unscientific". This was a dangerous book to own in the pre-Peristroka Czech Republic. Near fine. Limitation not known. (Interestingly the binding is very similar to that employed by Havel's press and it is tempting to speculate that Havel's hand was somewhere in the printing of this book).
